US Global Village volunteers at Site B


7th July 2008: 9 volunteers out of 18 started working at Habitat Kota Kinabalu build site at Kampong Sinagang (about 40 minutes from KK). Despite their long flight from the US and without much sleep, the team demonstrated eagerness to start work. Pix shows the team arriving at the site and getting organized for work allocation. US GV volunteers at Build Site A (Kampong Kiansom Lama)




7th July 2008: Not wasting any precious time, 9 of the team members of 18 got to the site at Kampong Kiansom Lama to immediately familiarize themselves and to start work! Pictures show the team getting into gear with gusto. Once again, thank you for your contribution, commitment and dedication. We in Habitat KK truly appreciate it.

US GV volunteers meeting Home Partners at Kampong Kiansom Lama!!


7th July 2008: US Global Village volunteers from Team Enzo Repola at Habitat for Humanity Kota Kinabalu build site at Kampong Kiansom Lama meeting and being introduced to Home Partners David Baba (who is a mechanic) and his wife Nancy Kilintong (a clerk). This is the 1st time that Habitat KK is hosting an adult GV team from the USA. With 18 volunteers in the team, the group was divided equally into 2 teams, one at Building Site A (Kampong Kiansom Lama) and the second team at Building Site B (at Kampong Sinagang). What an exciting time lay ahead for the volunteers, who came from so far away to contribute so willingly, readily and lovingly.

USA Global Village Team: Welcome Briefing, Welcome Native Beads & Self Introduction








7th July 2008: After checking in at the Kasih Sayang Resort, the US Global Villlage Team were warmly welcomed by Allen Tong, President of Habitat for Humanity Kota Kinabalu, who also gave a briefing of the local guidelines, safety rules, the current build sites, logistics, transportation, food and drinks arrangements, etc. PR Chairman and Chief Co-ordinator Jeannette Tong presented individual welcome packs and garlanded each and every team member with native beads. Each volunteer then introduced themselves with a brief background and where they came from.

7th July 2008: The US Global Village Team of 18 volunteers led by Enzo Repola checked in at the Kasih Sayang Resort at Kampong Sinagang, about 40 minutes from Kota Kinabalu, where it is really cool, refreshing and with a breath-taking view of Mount Kinabalu and the city of Kota Kinabalu comfortably nestled below the hills.

Welcome Dinner at Emperor's Delight





6th July 2008: After travelling so many hours, and with so little rest, the team proceeded to a La Mian dinner at Emperor's Delight...something not too heavy - before an early night's rest to prepare for the first day of work at the Habitat worksite the next day...pix shows the arrival and awaiting for the dinner to be served!

At last, the US Global Village Team of Enzo Repola arrives







6th July 2008: The Global Village Team from the USA led by Enzo Repola arriving in Kota Kinabalu International Airport, being welcomed by President Allen Tong and PR Chairman Jeannette Tong, who is also the Chief Co-Ordinator for this team. Welcome Enzo and team to the 'Land Below the Wind'. Despite the long journey, picture shows the members pretty high spirited and looking eager to take on whatever we dish out for them at our Habitat worksites! That's the way, ah ha, ah ha, I like it, ah ha, ah ha...That''s the way, ah-ha, ah-ha, I like it!!!

Climb & Build by team of 20 volunteers from McGraw Hill










2nd & 3rd July 2008: A team of 20 volunteers from McGraw Hill (from Kuala Lumpur & Singapore) came to Sabah to scale Mt Kinabalu, and then spent 2 full days at our Habitat build site at Kampong Kiansom Lama. Habitat KK first launched its 'Climb & Build' program in 2006. The program is into its 3rd year now. We invite & encourage volunteers who visit Sabah to spend a few days at our buildsite. What a charged up and energetic team of proactive volunteers, they are !! The members are very well co-ordinated and cohesive, with tremendous team spirit. We thank team leader Ms Shirley Lim who demonstrated great leadership by proactively spurring the team on with words and actions of encouragement! Thanks so much for coming and spending time to interact with us in our building programs! We look forward to see you again soon! Home Dedication Number 6 at Kampong Terawi







29th June 2008: Habitat for Humanity Kota Kinabalu dedicated our House Number 6 at Kampong Terawi, about half an hour away from Kota Kinabalu, to Ms Sheila Justus, witnessed by several of our Board of Directors including Francis Chong, Chris Lean, Mary Chai, Jeannette Tong, Ranen Battacharrya, Allen Tong as well as representatives from our corporate partner Desa Cargill represented by Ruspian Angkaji, Stanley Mogindol, Dr Saikim Gimbang & Kelly Kong. Sheila is very happy to receive the key to her new Habitat home from President Allen Tong, as well as a gift from Habitat KK. Like other home partners who receive the keys to their new Habitat home, Sheila thanked us for helping her to build a new home! We would like to thank all our volunteers who came from far and wide, from Korea, Hong Kong, Germany, Philippines, Kuala Lumpur, Kota Bharu, Miri, Melaka, Kota Kinabalu, England etc etc...to help with your 'love' contribution, capital and monetary donation etc...you came to volunteer to build a home for this family with such dedication, passion, commitment and professionalism. We salute you! Syabas!



Home Dedication Number 5 at Kampong Penampang Baru Kimanis Papar



15th June 2008: Dedication of Habitat home number 5 for Home Owner VINSON KINSAN at Kampong Penampang Baru, Kimanis, Papar, which is about an hour from Kota Kinabalu. Pictures show our Board Member Chris Lean presenting the key to the house to Vinson and his family. Other Board Members in attendance are Ms Joanna Kitingan and Treasurer Mary Chai. Chris Lean also presented a gift to the proud owner of the latest Habitat home. Vinson expressed that he is very happy now that his family has a place of their own and he thanked Habitat for Humanity Kota Kinabalu from the bottom of his heart.

EABJM Lille final day at build sites








27th June 2008: Some pix of EABJM Lille volunteers on their last day at the worksite, some emotional moments, giving invaluable feedback and evaluation, leaders having one last look and chat with students, group picture, etc...thanks Guys!
